It ain’t over til it’s over.

“There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened.”

Yana Heinstein

Yana Heinstein

Yana Heinstein is one of the central figures in Germany’s breakbeats and drum & bass scene. Over 25+ years she’s shaped the sound as a DJ, producer, and label owner — classically trained, she set up her first studio in Frankfurt in the early ’90s after the Omen club, then carried the UK sound back to Germany after time in London with Nils Hess, Marco Lenzi, and Alex Silverfish. Her catalog includes remixes for Jam & Spoon, Kool & the Gang, Nas, Big Punisher, and KRS-One, alongside work for film, TV, and commercials.

Matthias Heinstein (MMM)

Matthias Heinstein / MMM

Matthias Heinstein — also known as MMM — is a Heidelberg-based producer who first encountered electronic music during London’s 1989 ‘summer of love.’ By the early ’90s he was making breakbeat-driven techno on an Akai S1100 / JD-800 / Atari Cubase rig, releasing under Bassline-Generation alongside his brothers and his sister Yana on their own labels Siren, Exodus, and Pornobass.

Tracks like Acetate Drums and Kool Skool reached international DnB sets via Mickey Finn, Randall, DJ SS and others; remix credits include KRS-One, Jam & Spoon, Nas, Big Punisher, and Missy Elliott. Since 2005 he has co-run Lifetime Records with Yana, releasing on iTunes, Beatport, and occasional vinyl. Today MMM masters and produces for Oslo, Cecille, All Day I Dream, Ursl, Fathers and Sons, and 8bit — blending minimal, house, dub, techno, breakbeat, and jazz.
